Finger Painting

Finger-paint is a kind of paint intended to be applied with the fingers; it typically comes in pots and is used by small children, though it has occasionally been used by adults either to teach art to children, or for their own use. The name though suggests that using this technique the paint is applied with the fingers, expert use of this medium makes use of the hands and lower arms too. Use of the entire arm to smooth the paint on the paper before a more detailed modeling with the fingers and other parts of the hand, sponges, cloth, and other tools may also be used to obtain a specific texture.

Objectives

  • Finger painting involves nearly all the senses (touch, feel, sight, smell, hearing) so it is a senses stimulator. The bright colors stimulate the eyes, the fingers feel the touch of the paint, and the splashing sounds of paint stimulate the ears. The stimulation of different senses helps to develop the brain.
  • The feeling of different textures and drawing pictures promote critical thinking and creativity.
  • Finger painting leads towards the better control of brain over muscular movements and the better coordination between brain and eyes.
  • It promotes motor skills
  • It provides the kids with a chance to express them selves in terms of colors and shapes
  • It leads to an excellent tactile experience.
  • It provides the kids with a chance to use their imagination , plan and create something
  • In some cases it is emotionally soothing
  • It leads to the development and strengthening of muscles in the hands and limbs of the kids
  • It develops an effective connection between right and left hemispheres of the brain and thus leads towards the development of critical, logical, creative and parallel thinking.
