Global Count Down

Global countdown is the role play strategy game developed by Telenor Norway. The countdown game was created in 2005 on Telenor’s 150th anniversary. It creates a sense of environmental responsibility in our youth by increasing awareness of the Earth’s ecological challenges and environment-related problems. It is the better source for our young generation’s awareness about the ICT technology Knowledge and practically implementation on surrounding applications.  It increases the confidence level through negotiations and case studies during different scenarios in the game. Global countdown is a digital, state of art negotiating game to promote the good use of information & communication technology. Through information processing, co-operation, communication and negotiation participants are challenged to make difficult ethical decisions. The action takes place on an international research vessel on its way to the North Pole. The ship and crew eventually run into difficulties, and it’s up to the world leaders to decide their fate. The world is divided into four regions (East, West, South and North). The supreme body of international co-operation is a regional council comprising the president and his/her advisors with respect to their regions.

Phases of the Game

Round 1

In this round the vessel has discovered large deposits of oil and the question is how the regional council will respond to this discovery. Should they continue their expedition or should they break of and make decision for test drilling?

Round 2

There is an injured person on board. What should be done?

Round 3

Another ship nearby has sent out a distress signal. What will be regional council do?

Round 4

Clearly there are major problems with the reactor. What will the regional council do: step up repairs to the reactor or initiate dropping the reactor?

Round 5

There are clearly serious problems with the reactor, so the decision that has to be made now is particularly crucial. What will the regional council do: take the ship up to full speed or initiate dropping the reactor, which will cause the ship to sink.
